WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A LADY MONARCH?

PRIDE - COMMITMENT - TEAM SPIRIT

The 2008/2009 season will be the eighth year of existence of the New Hampshire Lady Monarchs girls travel hockey program. Over the first 7 years the organization has made some changes to better suit the players and parents. From the first year of our existence it has been our philosophy to develop a program that best meets the needs of area youth in developing their hockey skills. Other local travel programs often lack emphasis on individual skill development and schedule practices based on ice availability which leads to inconsistent days and times for practice. USA Hockey, which governs youth hockey in the U.S., recommends a practice to game ratio of 2:1 for optimum skill development and more than 2 hours per week of practice. Many of the programs that we have researched play 2-3 games for every practice.

The Lady Monarchs agree with the USA Hockey recommendation and take pride in offering:

2+ hours a week of practice

Consistent practice days and times

Practice schedule developed

beginning of the season

The development that your child will show over the course of the season as a result of being in our program is overwhelming. The philosophy of our program is very simple:

More Quality Practices Equals More Development

Our season starts in late August and runs through late March. Our teams are encouraged to participate in high-level tournaments to be determined by the individual teams and coaches. All of our teams will participant in the Granite State Hockey League (GSL) In addition; our teams will participate in the New England Girls Hockey League (NEGHL) and/or the Bay State Girls Hockey League (BSGHL) and will play an approximate 40 game schedule. We feel that the combination of these leagues fit our philosophy. The Granite State Hockey League (GSL) enables our teams to participate in STATE, REGIONAL and NATIONAL playoffs. The 2008/2009 season will be our fifth year in the New England Girls Hockey League (NEGHL). This league has proven to be the most competitive birth year league for the New Hampshire Lady Monarchs program and is one of the premier leagues in the Northeast. Likewise, the Bay State Girls Hockey League is a quality league, which offers us the diversity to play other quality programs by expanding the territory.

PREP SCHOOL EXPOSURE

At the older age groups we offer the players exposure to prep school and college coaches throughout the Northeast. The U14 team will tour several prep schools and play their teams and have an opportunity to meet their coaches during the course of the season. U16 and above will also play some prep school games and will also play some games against some college teams. During these times there will be a chance for interaction with college coaches and recruiters, an opportunity for the player to meet the coach and to submit an academic/hockey portfolio. History has proven that this is an effective process that “opens doors” and guides our graduating players towards rewarding college careers.
